The Punjab Government has decided to set up an advisory body with a view to bringing revolutionary changes in the functioning of Revenue department. Decision to this effect has been taken by Revenue Minister, Bikram Singh Majithia in a high level meeting of revenue
department today.Disclosing this here, Majithia said that the Advisory body wouldinclude the senior level officers of the department besides revenue experts which would work in cohesion to find out the ways to increase the revenue, welfare of the people and also maintain land records and redresse the disputes of NRIs. The department will be modernized and the working be improved as per the needs and requirements of the general public so that they are not harassed.Total transparency in the maintenance of the land records and deeds would be ensured to weed out corruption. A feedback system will be evolved to redress the grievances of the people. The Minister also said that the review meeting of advisory body would be held after every month. He said that the principle of checks and balances would be adopted within the department and the coordination between patwaris, Kannugos, Naib Tehsildars and Tehsildars would be strengthened. To improve the quality of services, refresher courses has been made mandatory for all revenue officials and any official who fails to get trained, would not be posted on the public dealing posts,
said Majithia.Taking a serious note of the negligence in maintaining land records, Majithia said that the district land record centers and head office of land record at Jalandhar would be upgraded and modernized. He said that the project regarding the computerization of Fird Kendras
would be completed within next six months as out of 163 fird Kendras 155 have been already computerized.The Minister said that to eliminate corruption within the revenue department, terms of all posts would be fixed and each and every official would be shifted after the completion of term. He said that the pisional checking teams would be set up to check the registries besides a 24 hours toll free number where people can register their complaints for the spot redressal. He said that annual confidential reports (ACR) of every employee must be written and meeting of department promotional committees (DPC) would be held annually.Majithia said that the vacant posts of 'Vasika Navees' would be filled in next six months aiming at improving the functioning of
department at the lowest level..
