Under the second phase of “AkhAkis” housing initiative, led by Dar-ul-Khair Mirwaiz Manzil, involving the  rehabilitation of worst hit flood victims, APHC Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq today laid the foundation of six more houses to be constructed at Chattbal Srinagar.According to a statement issued to GNS, following the recommendation of local Masjid Committee Chattabal, Mirwaiz laid the foundation of six more houses belonging to Begum Farachi wife of late Ghulam Mohammad Akhoon, Mushtaq Ahmad Dar son of Jamaal Dar, Ghulam Ahmad Mir, Habbiulah Mir son of late Abdul Gafar Mir, Ghulam Nabi Bhat son of late Khizar Mohammad Bhat, Ghulam Qadir Dar son of Abdul Samad Dar, and Ghulam Nabi Rather son of late Abdul Rahim Rather.

During the stone laying ceremony, apart from Mirwaiz, a number of Imams, Ulemas, flood victims and scores of young volunteers who had come to help in the construction work, and  officials of Dar-ul-Khair were present .In the first phase of Akh Akis intiative, last month Mirwaiz had laid the foundation of several houses at Maisuma and Mandar bagh localities of Srinagar. Under Akh Akis housing initiative, Dar-ul-Khair would construct hundred houses for the flood victims. While addressing the gathering, Mirwaiz appealed to people  come forward and generously donate to take the Akh Akis housing initiative forward. Terming the floods in Kashmir as a “natural disaster of extreme nature,’ he said the catastrophe wrecked havoc on the people destroying their homes  and greatly damaging the  infrastructure.

He said that while the aim of the initiative was to provide houses to the most needy among the flood victims, it also helps inculcate in us a sense of shared responsibility towards our community and one another, a value greatly exhibited by the people especially the youth during the floods.Such social initiatives reinforce a feeling of brotherhood , oneness and solidary among the members of the   society which in turn helps in building a better social mileu. Castigating the government in failing to provide relief and rehabilitation to the flood hit victims despite the passage of 4 months since the floods struck, APHC Chairman said the pro-Indian parties, who were absent during the catastrophe, and instead got involved  in sham elections for seeking power left the flood victims at the mercy of god. He said now free from their electoral exploits, they have started talking about the victims, which is tantamount to rubbing salt in the wounds of flood victims .During the floods, Mirwaiz said the Kashmiri nation   stood together with each other like a rock and faced the nature’s fury with collective courage and commitment .Stressing that the Dar-ul-Khair initiative was  completely indigenous in nature, where the resource were being raised by contributions from kashmiris both here and abroad, APHC Chairman thanked the people for their generosity and love for their fellow beings.  (GNS)
