Under Akh Akis housing initiative, Dar-ul-Khair would construct hundred houses for the flood victims. While addressing the gathering, Mirwaiz appealed to people come forward and generously donate to take the Akh Akis housing initiative forward. Terming the floods in Kashmir as a “natural disaster of extreme nature,’ he said the catastrophe wrecked havoc on the people destroying their homes and greatly damaging the infrastructure.
He said that while the aim of the initiative was to provide houses to the most needy among the flood victims, it also helps inculcate in us a sense of shared responsibility towards our community and one another, a value greatly exhibited by the people especially the youth during the floods.Such social initiatives reinforce a feeling of brotherhood , oneness and solidary among the members of the society which in turn helps in building a better social mileu. Castigating the government in failing to provide relief and rehabilitation to the flood hit victims despite the passage of 4 months since the floods struck, APHC Chairman said the pro-Indian parties, who were absent during the catastrophe, and instead got involved in sham elections for seeking power left the flood victims at the mercy of god. He said now free from their electoral exploits, they have started talking about the victims, which is tantamount to rubbing salt in the wounds of flood victims .During the floods, Mirwaiz said the Kashmiri nation stood together with each other like a rock and faced the nature’s fury with collective courage and commitment .Stressing that the Dar-ul-Khair initiative was completely indigenous in nature, where the resource were being raised by contributions from kashmiris both here and abroad, APHC Chairman thanked the people for their generosity and love for their fellow beings.
