Sushma meets South Korean president, invites 'bold investments'

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj Monday called on South Korean President Park Geun-hye and invited "bold investments" to benefit from the Indian government's 'Make in India' programme.Official sources said that during the discussions, Sushma Swaraj invited Korean companies to build on their success in India.She said the Make in India programme was aimed at providing necessary policy and other incentives to encourage manufacturing in India.The sources said President Park welcomed the new Indian initiatives and agreed to encourage the Korean industry to engage with India even more closely.She also reiterated the invitation for an early official visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Sushma Swaraj and South Korean Minister of Foreign Affairs Yun Byung-se later co-chaired the India-Republic of Korea joint commission meeting.The sources said the two ministers reviewed the development of bilateral relations since the visit of President Park to India in January this year and expressed satisfaction over the steady expansion of bilateral ties.The two ministers held in-depth consultations on all aspects of bilateral relations to strengthen the strategic partnership.The sources said the two sides also agreed that there were considerable possibilities of cooperation in areas such as shipbuilding, electronics, IT, energy and infrastructure.They reiterated mutual interest in deepening cooperation in civil nuclear energy and cyber security.The two ministers also exchanged views on global and regional developments.
