Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front chairman Mohammad Yasin Malik on Sunday begun indefinite hunger strike against the ‘atrocities perpetuated’ against people of Kashmir and especially residents of Maisuma, Srinagar. In a statement JKLF vice chairman Showkat Ahmad Bakshi said Malik, who is undergoing treatment at SKIMS under detention, decided to go on indefinite hunger strike. "Yasin sahib is undergoing treatment for kidney problem at the SKIMS Soura. But despite that he started hunger strike against the atrocities launched by the police against innocent civilians."

Bahshi said that like the past when the field was left open for pro-India parties, a crackdown has been launched against the pro-freedom people and “they are being tortured and humiliated in jails and police stations. "In Maisuma police raids residences of pro-freedom people in the dead of night and whosoever raises voice against this brutality, he is being subjected to torture. Police keeps fathers hostage for their sons and similarly political workers are being called to police stations where they are being brutally tortured," he alleged.Bakshi alleged that three JKLF workers Ishfaq Ahmad, Adil Ahmad and Faisal Aslam who were arrested almost a month before have been brutally tortured due to which they have suffered multiple fractures. "The SHO and SP of the area personally tortured these youth in the custody.”

Bakshi said that keeping in view the “reign of terror launched by police against the people and pro-freedom workers”, the JKLF chairman Yasin sahib decided to go for hunger strike. "But despite these brutal approach, government can't suppress the freedom movement," he said and appealed the pro-freedom people to get united to fight against those who are conspiring against the freedom movement.Bakshi also appealed people to pray for the speedy recovery of Malik.
