Cyclone caused Visakhapatnam naval lab Rs.8.10 crore damage

Naval Science and Technological Laboratory (NSTL) at Visakhapatnam, which was severely affected by cyclone Hudhud, has suffered damage to the tune of Rs.8.10 crore, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar Friday told parliament."Roof structures of buildings, doors, windows, rolling shutters, interiors of buildings, street lights, trees, compound walls, etc. were damaged due to high velocity winds," Parrikar said in a written reply to Lok Sabha. "A board was constituted by the director, NSTL to assess the damage. The board estimated the cost of repairs due to damage to be approximately Rs.8.10 crore," he said.The minister added that three agencies - Military Engineering Service (MES); Chief Construction Engineer (CCE) South; and Chief Construction Engineer (CCE) Estates, Hyderabad - have been assigned repair and replacement jobs to handle the huge volume of work simultaneously for the restoration.
