The Health and Family Welfare Minister Surjit Kumar Jayani emphasized on the need to launch more organized campaign on health and hygiene with special emphasis on oral health care.Stating this here today while inaugurating the 11th Reorientation Training Program of PCMS dental doctors and dental hygienists, Mr. Jayani called upon the PCMS dental doctors to ensure adequate dental health and hygiene to the people of Punjab. He said that children, who were more prone to the dental ailments due to unhealthy eating habits, need to be taught at length about the oral hygiene.
He told that we need to create awareness amongst the public through the dental awareness CD which was released to the district dental health officersThe Minister also said that the state of Punjab would be the first ever state in the country to have introduced the treatment of jaw dysfunction and pain management through chiropractic practice. Addressing as many as 320 dental doctors and dental Hygienists during the inaugural session of the training programme, the Minister said that the health department has been regularly imparting training to the in service dental doctors . He said that in about 14 such training programmes as many as 282 in service doctors have been trained so far. As many as 2 Dental hygiene workshops and 16 district level training programmes have been organized in the state on dental implants. In service 127 PCMS dental surgeons have also been trained for placing dental implants.
Sharing their views on the occasion, Dr Andria Hoda and Dr Prathap Addageethala, chiropractors from Canada said that they would extend their expertise to the young dental surgeons in on the latest technical knowhow in the field of jaw dysfunction. Speakers delivered lectures on various fields of dentistry which would enhance the knowledge of dentists ultimately benefitting the services being provided to the public of Punjab state.Dr Karanjit Singh Director Health Services, Dr R S Mann, President, Punjab Dental Council, Dr Rajesh Sharma, Director Procurement Punjab Health System Corporation, Dr Gurinder Brar, Director PHSC, Deputy Director Dr Usha Bansal, Dr Aprampar Sidhu, Deputy Director Dental were also present on the occasion.
