The CBI sought enhanced security from the Kolkata and the Bidhannagar police when state minister Madan Mitra - arrested for his alleged role in the Saradha chit fund scandal - is presented in a city court Tuesday. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) wrote to the city Police Commissioner Surojit Kar Purokayastha and his Bidhannagar counterpart Rajeev Kumar requesting adequate security measures be taken when Mitra is driven to the court in areas under their purview."CBI has written to us about ensuring proper security measures (in the court premises). There will be sufficient security arrangements," Joint Commissioner of Kolkata Police (Headquarters) Rajiv Mishra told media persons here on Monday.

Additional Commissioner of Police, Bidhannagar Debasish Dhar also confirmed the CBI's request and said steps will be taken to ensure fool-proof security. The CBI's letters have come in the wake of the ruckus created by Trinamool activists Saturday in the Alipur court where Mitra was produced Saturday. The party workers had also laid siege on the car when Mitra was moved from the CBI office to the court.
