Manohar Parrikar reviews security situation in Kashmir

Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar Thursday reviewed the overall security situation in the Kashmir Valley in the aftermath of Dec 5 attacks in which eight soldiers were killed in an attack on an army camp near Uri town, a statement said.According to the defence statement, Parrikar visited the Chinar Corps headquarters of the army here to review the overall security situation prevailing in the Valley.He was received by army chief, Gen.Dalbir Singh, Northern Army commander Lt.Gen. D.S. Hooda, and Chinar Corps commander Lt.Gen. Subrata Saha."The minister visited the War Memorial of the Chinar Corps and paid tributes to the martyrs by laying the wreath at the Memorial," said the statement.

The statement said the minister was briefed on the prevailing security situation in Jammu and Kashmir, and apprised about the army's robust counter-infiltration grid along the Line of Control and the counter-terrorist grid in the hinterland.Parrikar was also given an overview of the counter-infiltration and counter-terrorist operations undertaken by the corps in the recent past."He appreciated the effectiveness of the intelligence and operational grid and the much higher success rate this year, in neutralizing infiltration attempts, which had contributed significantly towards a secure environment in the state.

"He inspected the weapons, ammunition and war like stores recovered during the recent operations and complimented the commanders for the high level of integration achieved with the state police and the central armed paramilitary forces (CAPF), the manner in which army coordinated the application of security resources during elections and assisted the CAPF that were inducted into the Valley," it said.Parrikar also "addressed all ranks, interacted at length with the soldiers and complimented them on the high state of morale and operational preparedness", it said, adding he "lauded the army personnel for their selfless service towards national security and assured that the nation stood behind them and would support them in all their endeavour".
