College girl injured in yet another acid attack

A 21-year-old college girl from Allochibagh Thursday received burn injuries when two men threw acid on her face at Nowshera, Soura in outskirts of Srinagar city.Official sources told GNS that two persons who were travelling in a car intercepted a B.A LLB student (girl) (name withheld) outside the college in Tawheedabad, Nowshera area and attacked her with acid. In the attack the girl received burn injuries in her face and hands, they said, adding that the persons after carrying out the attack fled from the spot.

Soon after the attack the passersby and the local police reached to the spot and shifted the injured college girl to SKIMS Soura Institute in unconscious state where doctors referred her to JVC hospital Bemina for specialized treatment.The doctors at JVC hospital told GNS that the girl has suffered grave burn injuries in her eyes.Meanwhile police has launched a hunt to nab the assailants, they said.A police official while confirming the incident said that it is premature to say whether the victim is known to the attacker or not.After the news spread in the college, scores of students took to streets and staged strong protest demonstration against the attackers. The protesters while carrying ply cards and demanding stern action against the culprits.Earlier this year, a court awarded 10-years imprisonment to a youth for similar attack in Srinagar. (GNS)
