Expressing the confidence that the people of Jammu & Kashmir would defeat the designs to fragment their votes, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senior leader and Member of Parliament, Muzzafar Hussain Baig said he expected the people to give a decisive mandate to his party.

“Coalition era is over at the national level, where the people have given a decisive mandate to a single party to lead the country and we need a strong government in Jammu and Kashmir too that could pursue the issues of the state and represent the aspirations of the people boldly at all forums both in and outside the state,” he said while addressing a public meeting at Sheeri in Baramulla constituency in the North Kashmir.

The PDP president, Mehbooba Mufti also addressed the gathering.  Baig cautioned the people about the nefarious designs of certain forces in Jammu & Kashmir who are out to fragment votes and polarize the situation for their trivial political interests. “Political scenario has taken total turn around not only at the national level but also in some pivotal states like Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal etc. where people have given a decisive mandate to regional parties allowing them to understand and address the local issues strongly,” he said and added the people of the state in the same fashion should give an overwhelming support to the PDP, which has the vision as well as strong resolve to solve the all the issues facing the state.

Baig said the people should not waste their vote by casting it in favour of those smaller groups which have emerged overnight with a specific mission to pide the electorate and instead give a blunt message to those forces and support the PDP, which is ‘spearheading the movement of change in the state.’The PDP Member of Parliament said the decimation of National Conference and Congress the political scenario has changed the political scenario in the state. “The BJP which is pursuing a negative agenda for the state and want to harm the distinctive identity of Jammu and Kashmir to increase their numbers in the state legislature,” he said and added the PDP is the party which can only take the BJP head-on to safeguard the interests of the people.

Baig said if it comes to power PDP would not only realize the full potential of Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road, but would also take steps to develop Srinagar-Uri highway as a six-lane expressway. He said extension of railway line upto Uri would be also the focus area for PDP besides initiating measures for development of horticulture and tourism in the area on modern lines.Baig said besides the capital city, Srinagar, Baramulla and Anantnag towns will also be developed as smart cities with all basic amenities and world class infrastructure. He said work on the bridges being constructed on the Jhelum River in Baramulla will be accelerated soon after the PDP, under the leadership of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, takes over the reins of the state. He said the pristine glory of the river will be revived by strengthening and beautifying its banks and constructing parks along it.
