Punjab Health Minister Surjit Kumar Jyani today got a complaint/suggestion box installed at Health Directorate in sector 34 here with a focus to streamline the functioning of department The complaint box having contact numbers of Jyani 99157-08000 and Chief Parliamentary Secretary Dr. Navjot Kaur Sidhu 94784-66666 would be opened by the minister himself on every Tuesday in the presence of senior officers.
Giving details in this regard, Jyani said there was a sole aim behind installation of this box to keep a close tap on the functioning of department and check corruption at ground level besides addressing the plaints of general masses. The complaints received would be redressed within 15 days ensuring necessary action. The Minister has asked the director Dr. Karanjit Singh to ensure the presence of senior officers at the time of opening the box. He also said that every complaint would be attended and followed minutely. He, however, said that on the request of the complainant the name and credentials would be kept secret even anonymous letters would be considered.
Jyani said this complaint box would help to have better understanding and coordination between him and general public with a view to make functioning of health department more effective. He said it would also help to have better monitoring on the department’s work besides sorting out problems being faced by general masses in public hospitals.Later the Minister handed over appointment letters to seven newly recruited officials in the department on compassionate grounds. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister asked the officials to work with full dedication to serve the state.
Referring to the pressure being mounted by doctors’ associations in Ludhiana incident, the Minister said this incident has not only brought bad name to the department but the entire medical fraternity. He said a committee under Deputy Commissioner has already been constituted to look into the matter and preliminary enquiry reveals that the concerned doctor was not available despite repeated calls.“Associations can initiate a dialogue with government to prove the doctor innocent in the incident. Government is only trying to deliver justice to the people, who are suffering at the hands of erring officers by awarding a minor punishment to them” he added.
