Punjab Revenue & Public Relations Minister Bikram Singh Majithia today said that for over a year some people with vested interests are hell bent on tarnishing his image by dragging his name in the Bhola drug racket. Strongly denying the allegations against him, Mr. Majithia described them as baseless, nonsensical and with no substantial evidence The so called ‘clinching statements’ that were made by the accused are without any evidence to support them and are mere conjecture.Majithia asked what was the allegation ? That he knew Punjabi NRIs? Was that not his responsibility? As a public figure he met many people which was expected of a person in public life. His doors are always open for every Punjabi. He strongly denied having made any calls or having any involvement as accused by Bhola.
He had never provided gunmen or an Innova vehicle to any such person. Mr Majithia out rightly rejected these allegation by describing them as totally false and malicious. Whoever has made these allegations has done so with the intention of tarnishing his reputation. About Satpreet Satta, Mr. Majithia said that he had met a number of NRIs including Canadian, UK and US politicians and people accompanying them, but how can he be held responsible for what they doin their personal or private life. He said that when an inpidual accompanying politicians from his country crosses international borders and is not questioned or caught by the authorities for any crime, how can he on meeting the person judge the persons intentions or deeds.
Reacting regarding the allegation of NRIs attending his marriage, Mr. Majithia clarified that thousands of people from all walks of life, including a common man from his Majitha assembly constituency to politicians from Canada and other countries besides different parties of India along with representatives of various religious and social organizations were present.
He said that no person with a questionable background was on his guest list. A politician meets and gets photographed with a number of people on a regular basis as that is what his job entails, however that does not make the politician an accomplice in the inpiduals mis-deeds. If such was the case then all politicians and public figures, would constantly be accused of various crimes. What people do in their private life was their business and he has no way of knowing if they have broken the law. Majithia said that with the grace of The Almighty and His kindness, his forefathers have a long history of serving the people of Punjab and India. Carrying forward this duty, he has never protected or supported any anti national activity and the question of doing any favour for such people was unthinkable.
In the end, he said that some forces having a vested interest were trying to exploit this as an opportunity for playing dirty politics to politically damage him. He said that he himself and his family have always worked for the cause of Punjab and was strongly against drugs. He is also for a flawless investigation, so that justice could be delivered. He said that this issue should be dealt with, without losing the ever important core issue of “the fight against drugs” by taking it to its logical end.
