Hurriyat Conference (G) Chairman Syed Ali Geelani Wednesday distributed relief cheques worth Rs five lakh and kits containing essential commodities among 50 more flood affected families in a phase nine cash distribution to the flood victims. In a statement Geelani said, “Though we were put to test by almighty Allah during recent floods but instead of all this we tried our best to help these and we deeply feel for the affected families and share their sorrows and till date we have distributed Rs 45 lakh and five thousand quintals of rice among 450 deserving families. In addition bedding and clothing among 7000 flood affected families were distributed>“Despite all odds and impediments relief and rehabilitation mission is being carried forward,” he said. Geelani in his brief address to affected families said, “We should seek help from Almighty Allah and to whom we must submit. We feel that Srinagar was worst hit during recent flood fury and its markets and business establishments lost their glory. Srinagar was a business hub but recent floods turned it into a ghost city and it has lost its glory, grace and splendor.”

Geelani said that even after lapse of two months situation in Srinagar is still grim and gloomy and added that “Delhi and state authorities feel no sympathy with those affected during deluge, instead they hurriedly jumped into election fray.”“Their approach towards these people is callous and insensitive. They have no sympathy with the people instead are hectic about election drama and luring people on false assumptions. They are deceiving people,” he alleged.Referring to a news item published in today’s papers he said that authorities offer a meager amount of Rs 3800 to each affected family for repair or construction of collapsed houses. “It is a ridiculous and sad. I feel about that how can they manage to repair their lodgings out of this meager amount.”

Taking dig at authorities, Geelani said, “State collects tens of millions against charges from tax payers and that amount is looted by corrupt bureaucrats. Administration is duty bound to come to the rescue of common people as they pay taxes from their pockets.”He ridiculed pro-Indian parties and in his special reference to BJP that they with power, money and influence are bargaining for votes and are spending huge amounts for horse trading.  “There is no difference between National Conference, Congress, PDP, and Peoples Conference and irrespective of their origin and affiliations all these parties are responsible to strengthen the Indian domain and occupation,” he alleged.

Geelani claimed that these parties are least serious about Kashmir issue and they have no option other than to obey dictates from armed forces. Lashing at National Conference, Geelani said, “They for last six years despite being in power, were not able to repeal AFSPA and now are rhetoric about it and in their tall claims are again trying to befoul people over this issue. On the other hand the contesting parties are talking for so-called change and development and take people for ride and just making a fun of their vote and support.”

“This is the reason that we have decided to boycott election drama. I urge people to reject all those parties playing with their sentiments. They act as stooges for India and I appeal to state employees and request them to deposit their one day salary in account for flood affected families. I also appeal to business community and sports industry to show generosity and  come forward to help flood hit families,” he appealed.
