In a setback to National Conference ahead of the Assembly elections, its senior leader and former Lok Sabha MP Mehboob Beg Sunday quit the party and extended unconditional support to PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.Beg, son of NC stalwart Mirza Afzal Beg, announced the decision at a workers meet at his residence at Sarnal in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.“I won’t contest on NC mandate and will support Mufti sahib. There is a PDP wave by and large in J&K. BJP is RSS. It has made an intrusion into Kashmir. To stop RSS intrusion if NC had courage the way they had during Sher-e-Kashmir and Fakreh-e-Kashmir’s era, they would have done something,” he told KNS.“But it is only Mufti sahib who has guts and courage to counter the BJP march,” he added.
