Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav Tuesday accused the media of bias against his government, and urged it to work in tandem with the police and the politicians to improve the image of the state.Speaking at a function held to inaugurate 100 new houses for policemen, Yadav said in many cases the media sensationalised issues but when proved wrong they did not highlight it in the same measure. When the Director-General of Police made a statement about the killing and hanging of two sisters in a Badaun village a few months ago, the media did not buy the police theory and criticised the police functioning. But later when the same thing came out to be true, the media did not highlight the truth enough, the chief minister rued.

Adding that the state government was committed to providing the best facilities and weaponry for policemen, Yadav urged officials to intervene timely in serious cases and incidents so that these do not flare up into major incidents. He also announced that in the next three years 1.20 lakh constables will be recruited.Citing the example of 1090 Women Powerline, the chief minister said other states were also emulating the initiative taken by the state police. Help has come to lakhs of women and girls in distress through this service, he pointed out.
