Punjab sets aside Rs. 70 crore for subsidy on installation of underground irrigation pipes-Tota Singh

90 percent subsidy to be given under joint project and 50 percent for individual tubewells

The Punjab Government today gave a big push to irrigation system in the state by setting aside Rs. 70 crore to provide subsidy under joint projects and to inpidual tube wells. While presiding over a review meeting of soil and water conservation department, Agriculture Minister Mr. Tota Singh said Punjab has chalked out a comprehensive irrigation program under which two-tier subsidy would be provided. He said underground irrigation pipes would be installed throughout the state. The Minister said under this unique initiative 90 percent subsidy would be provided to joint project of farmers while 50 percent or Rs. 22000 per hectare to farmers under inpidual project. The Minister informed that this irrigation network would make the availability of water at the tail ends. He said that areas having saline water including Mansa, Barnala, Sangrur, Bathinda and Sri Mukatsar Sahib would be taken on priority to install underground irrigation water pipes.
