Army on Friday said it have averted a major tragedy by detecting an Improvised explosive device (IED) planted in a gas cylinder near Circuit house along the Mughal road in south Kashmir’s Shopian district.“A major tragedy was averted today at around 09:45 am when a patrol party of Army's 44 RR detected and defused a powerful five kg IED planted by suspected militants near Chowgam village in the district”, a senior army official said.He said that the traffic was stopped on both sides of the road and the device was defused in the nearby fields by a bomb disposal squad.He said that the explosive was planted apparently to target the Government forces, which pass through the area.
