Minister for Rural Development and Panchayats, Mohammad Sagar has asked officers to put in place a mechanism so that mourners do not face any inconvenience during the Muharram days.The Minister was addressing officer during a review meeting convened to discuss the arrangements put in place for Muharram. It was attended by pisional Commissioner, Kashmir Rohit Kansal, Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar, Director CA&PD, IGP Kashmir, SSP Traffic, Chief Engineer PDD, PHE, R&B, RTO Kashmir, Director SKIMS and other senior officers of various departments.The Minister directed the Chief Engineer PDD to ensure that the people get uninterrupted power supply during the month especially in the locations dominated by the Shia community. He also directed for ensuring adequate street lighting besides carrying out necessary repair of these wherever needed.

The Minister asked the officers of PHE department to provide adequate supply of potable water during the month so that the people do not face any inconvenience. He also directed the officers of Srinagar Municipal Corporation to ensure cleanliness of the city especially in and around Imam Baras.Sagar asked the officers of CA&PD to ensure adequate availability of food grains and other essentials to the people during the month. “There should be adequate checking of the markets as well so that quality items are provided to the people’’, he added.

The Minister also asked the Health Department to keep ready ambulances and first aid in and around various Imam Baras. He asked the police to keep a close vigil on the situation so that any untoward incident does not occur.Sagar also directed the RTO Kashmir to ensure that the necessary transport facilities are made available during the late and wee hours.
