Kashmir unit of Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) Wednesday welcomed the decision of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to spend Diwali in Kashmir. In a statement here the BJP spokesman Khaild Jehangir said, “Narendra Modi is the first Prime Minister in the history of India who holds Kashmir so close to his heart. His decision to be in Kashmir on the occasion of Diwali speaks volumes about how important Kashmir and Kashmiris are for him.”Jehangir said that Modi wants to express solidarity with flood hit Kashmiris by staying here on Diwali. “We welcome Prime Minister’s decision to be in the Valley on Diwali day,” he added.

Taking a dig at the separatists, Jehangir said, “The people who have called for a shutdown on Modi’s visit are trying to befool people. Shutdowns and hartals have not served any purpose during the past 22-years. These have only added to the miseries of the masses.”

He said the flood victims need solace and all possible help and shutdown definitely won’t help their cause. “Prime Minister is committed to help the flood affected people and separatists by giving such calls are trying to create a wedge between the masses and the Centre. One hopes people won’t allow vested interests to succeed in their designs and would welcome the Prime Minister with open arms,” he added.
