Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal envisioned that Ludhiana would be developed as most clean and green city besides upgrading its infrastructure and basic amenities according to futuristic needs of the industrial capital as well as its population and periphery.Taking stock of ongoing development projects, Mr. Badal asked urban local bodies department and GLADA to interlink the beautification and landscaping along with rehabilitation and maintenance of all roundabouts with Swach Bharat drive to achieve mission clean and green. It was informed in the meeting that 17 major roundabouts of the city has been handed over to industrial houses for beautification, landscaping and their maintenance and the work on 13 roundabouts have been started.

Commissioner Municipal Corporation Ludhiana informed Deputy CM that Hero Group has adopted Rakh Bagh to make it world class while some more green belts would be adopted by other industrial houses. He said that this project would be completed at a cost of Rs. 20 crore.

Deputy CM also directed secretary local bodies Ashok Gupta to expedite the ongoing development works in all wards and complete the same within set deadline of December 31, 2014. The prestigious Rs. 268 crore sewerage project was also in full swing with completion of more than 84 percent work and the project would be completed by March 31, 2015.

Secretary local bodies apprised Deputy CM that 100 percent water supply project of Rs. 116 crore would be completed till December. It was also informed that the project of mechanised sweeping of city roads has been initiated under which 47 km stretch of city roads would be swept and cleaned mechanically. Deputy CM asked the authorities that there would be no compromise on the quality of execution of project and work should be allocated to world renowned and credible companies. The project would be completed at a cost of Rs. 50 crore.Gupta informed Mr. Badal that the first phase construction of Pakhowal Indoor Stadium at a total cost of Rs. 40 crore has been concluded while the second phase would take place from November this.  Deputy CM asked MC Commissioner to intensify the construction of dwelling units for slum dwellers to make city clean. It was informed that possession to allottees of 1100 households would be given by October 31 while more 2400 dwelling units were ready whereas 1232 dwelling units by completed by March next.

Expressing his displeasure over the slow functioning of existing company hired for integrated solid waste management, Mr. Badal said this Rs. 100 crore project would be taken on priority and international standard reputed companies should only be engaged for this purpose.

Prominent amongst those present in the meeting included Mr. H.S. Gohalwaria Mayor Ludhiana, Mr. Rahul Tiwari, Mr. Manvesh Singh Sidhu and Mr. Ajay Mahajan all special principal secretaries to Deputy CM, Mr. Pardeep Aggarwal Commissioner MC Ludhiana and officers of various departments.
