Gulmarg , 16 Oct 2014

With fresh snowfall in the upper reaches of world famous Gulmarg in north Kashmir, the flow of tourists have started to surge following decline due to devastating floods in the valley.Known for its skiing slopes, the Afarwat and Kongdoori received 07 and 2.5 inches of snow respectively on Wednesday. Following the snowfall, the tourists turned towards these places in the Gulmarg and enjoyed their holidays.

An official of the Jammu and Kashmir Cable Car Corporation (JKCCC) told GNS that there was decline in tourist flow but after fresh snowfall over the region, there is a surge. “Due to snowfall in upper reaches, the tourists have started to arrive again. They also think now that the situation is normalizing and has improved,” Riyaz Makai, the Assistant Manager at JKCCC, told GNS.

A woman tourist told GNS that there is no problem here and they are feeling good. Another tourist, Anil, said the tourism in Kashmir should be thrived. The tourists told GNS that the Kashmir valley should be provided with aid so that it limps back to normalcy. “Kashmir should be brought to normalcy. The international as well as national aid should be sent here so that the things normalize particularly tourism industry,” said a group of tourists. They said that other people should also come to Kashmir as ‘normalcy has returned the flood water has receded’.
