Punjab Food and Civil Supplies Minister Adesh Partap Singh Kairon today reviewed the ongoing procurement of wheat in the State during a meeting with Principal secretary to Chief Minister Punjab S.K.Sandhu and higher officials of Food and Civil Supplies department. Disclosing this here today Secretary Food and Civil Supplies D.S.Grewal said that 75.64 lakh metric ton wheat procured till april 28 in the state. He said that the procurement of wheat in the state running smoothly and according to the Agriculture Department 108 lakh M.T. wheat expected to arrive in mandis. He said that the Department has made sufficient arrangements to purchase more than 115 Lakh Metric ton wheat this season. He said that the state had a stock of 4.42 Lakh gunny bags before the procurement of wheat, from which 3.02 Lakh gunny bags has been used by agencies till date and presently States procurement agencies had a stock of 1.40 Lakh gunny bags. Besides that new stock of gunny bags would reach with the State agencies till first of May.He asked the Department officials to make sure that only new gunny bags should be used while purchasing the wheat for Central pool. He also said that 1.5 Lakh metric ton wheat would be procured for the purpose to operate Atta-Dal scheme and to minimize the expenditure in this regard Department has allow the agencies to use the one year old gunny bags.Prominent amongst present in the meeting included Director Food and Civil supplies Dr Harkesh Singh Sidhu and Managing Directors of Various agencis.
