Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Thursday and discussed a range of development and public welfare initiatives being implemented across the state, with a particular focus on the expansion of natural farming, electricity conservation and rural development programmes.

During the meeting, the Governor updated the Prime Minister on efforts to promote natural farming in Gujarat and the results achieved so far. According to the officials, an intensive statewide campaign is under way to encourage farmers to adopt chemical-free natural farming practices and to strengthen cow-based agriculture.

Acharya Devvrat said the initiative is aimed at helping farmers move towards “poison-free natural farming” while reducing dependence on chemical inputs. He also informed the Prime Minister about measures being taken to increase awareness of sustainable agricultural practices among farming communities across the state.

The Governor further briefed the Prime Minister on electricity conservation efforts being carried out in Gujarat in line with national objectives. "Under directions issued through Raj Bhavan, a power-saving campaign is being implemented in mission mode across government offices, universities, municipalities and municipal corporations throughout the state," the Governor said.

The discussion also covered 'Gram Kalyan' programmes being organised in rural areas of Gujarat. Acharya Devvrat informed the Prime Minister about initiatives undertaken at the village level in sectors including sanitation, tree plantation, environmental protection, education, value-based learning, employment generation, healthcare, de-addiction, animal husbandry and awareness of government welfare schemes.

"Work was also being carried out to promote natural farming and strengthen social harmony in villages through community-based activities and public participation," he said. In addition, he apprised the Prime Minister of feedback received during his direct interactions with villagers in different parts of the state.

According to the Governor, these interactions have generated positive responses from rural communities regarding ongoing welfare and development efforts. The meeting formed part of a broader review of programmes aimed at improving rural livelihoods, encouraging sustainable agricultural practices and strengthening public welfare delivery across Gujarat.
