Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Monday approved Rs 629 crore for the four-laning of six key roads in Gujarat’s Kutch district, a move aimed at improving rural connectivity, easing freight movement linked to Mundra Port, and supporting tourism in the region.

The approval forms part of the state government’s broader effort to upgrade important road corridors across Gujarat. According to the state government, the investment will be used to widen and improve a series of roads and bypasses in and around Mundra and neighbouring villages in Kutch.

The approved projects include the four-laning of 4.1 kilometres of the Mundra-Luni Vadala Road and the widening and improvement of 5.1 kilometres of the Deshalpar-Siracha Road. The package also covers 5.5 kilometres of the Mundra-Zarpara-Kandagara-Dhrab Road and the Zarpara village bypass, 3.3 kilometres of the Navinal village bypass road, 4.5 kilometres of the road serving Mota Kandagara village, and 20 kilometres of the Mundra-Zarpara-Kandagara Road between chainage 19 and 39.

The state government said the projects have been approved to provide stronger road connectivity to rural areas of Kutch and to improve transport infrastructure for local residents. "The new four-lane roads are expected to make travel more convenient for villagers and reduce congestion in populated areas through the construction of bypasses," officials said.

The upgraded road network is also expected to benefit freight transportation to and from Mundra Port, one of India’s largest commercial ports, by enabling heavy vehicles to move goods more efficiently and safely between industrial and commercial hubs in the region.

Officials said the bypass roads would help divert heavy traffic away from village centres while improving access to surrounding industrial areas. The improved connectivity is also expected to support economic activity across Kutch, which has witnessed significant industrial growth alongside its emergence as a major tourism destination.
