Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Sh. Manohar Lal visited the waste disposal plant at Bandhwari in Gurugram on Thursday. During the visit, he inspected the ongoing waste disposal work at the plant and directed officials to further accelerate the process.

The Union Minister instructed that a report on the daily waste disposal work being carried out at the Bandhwari plant should be sent to him every 24 hours to ensure regular monitoring of the work. At present, two agencies are engaged in waste disposal work at the Bandhwari plant.

The Union Minister directed officials to increase the number of agencies to ensure that the site is cleared at the earliest. He said there should be no laxity in the waste disposal process and the site must be completely cleared within the stipulated timeframe.

He also directed officials to identify a separate site for disposal of fresh waste so that the ongoing disposal of legacy waste is not hindered in any way.

Target to Clear Bandhwari Site Within One Year

After the inspection, the Union Minister chaired a review meeting with senior officials of Gurugram and Faridabad at the PWD Rest House. During the meeting, he said that cleanliness is the primary responsibility of Municipal Corporations and must be treated as a top priority.

He said that Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi recently reviewed the Swachh Bharat Mission. The government aims to identify 50 cities across the country and develop them into clean and beautiful urban centres.

He added that cities represent the identity of the country and are the first places visited by people coming from abroad. The Union Minister directed officials to ensure that the Bandhwari waste site is completely cleared within one year.

He said that if any obstacle arises during the work, it should be resolved immediately.

Directions for Regular Drone Surveys

During the meeting, Sh. Manohar Lal also directed officials to conduct regular drone surveys of the Bandhwari waste site to ensure transparent and effective monitoring of the work being carried out there. He said that modern technology can help maintain continuous oversight on both the speed and quality of work.

Emphasis on Further Improving Gurugram’s Sanitation System

The Union Minister stressed the need to further strengthen and improve the sanitation system in Gurugram and said that garbage should not be visible at any public place in the city. He suggested dividing all wards of the city into seven zones and assigning responsibility for each zone to officers of the rank of Additional Municipal Commissioner and Joint Commissioner to ensure area-wise monitoring and accountability. He directed officials to implement sanitation management in mission mode and ensure a clean and better environment for citizens.

GMDA CEO P.C. Meena, Deputy Commissioner Uttam Singh, Police Commissioner Shibas Kaviraj, Municipal Commissioner Faridabad Dhirendra Khadgata, Municipal Commissioner Gurugram Pradeep Dahiya, Municipal Commissioner Manesar Pradeep Singh, Additional Commissioner Faridabad Saloni Sharma, Additional Commissioner Gurugram Ravindra Yadav, Joint Commissioner Dr. Pritpal Singh and several other officials were also present on the occasion.
