Addressing a massive public rally in Ropar, BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh accused the Bhagwant Mann-led AAP government of pushing Punjab towards complete lawlessness and administrative chaos. Referring to the brutal killing of Punjab Police employee Joga Singh near Majitha in Amritsar and the violent unrest inside Kapurthala Central Jail, Chugh said these incidents expose the frightening collapse of law and order, the rise of gangster networks, and the complete failure of governance in Punjab.

Demanding the immediate resignation of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann — who also holds the Home portfolio — Chugh said that when even a serving Punjab Police employee is not safe while going on duty, ordinary citizens can have no sense of security under the present government. He said repeated attacks on police establishments, extortion rackets, targeted killings, jail violence, and expanding gangster activity clearly indicate that criminals, not the rule of law, are controlling Punjab today.

Addressing the gathering at the Ropar rally, Tarun Chugh said that instead of taking serious action against the drug menace, the Mann government is indulging in survey politics and publicity exercises. He said conducting the so-called Drug and Socio-Economic Census should have been the responsibility of Punjab Police, Anti-Narcotics Task Force, and law enforcement agencies.

However, Punjab Police today appears more occupied in providing security and logistical management for Arvind Kejriwal and his political coterie, forcing the government to dump double and triple duties on government school teachers already engaged in the National Census. Chugh said that Punjab’s teachers are already burdened with National Census work, voter list revision, local body election duties, and several other non-academic assignments.

Sending them door-to-door for surveys in extreme heat is not only inhuman but is also weakening Punjab’s education system. He said that if the Mann government was genuinely serious about tackling drugs, these same teachers could instead have been trained to conduct anti-drug awareness and vigilance campaigns inside schools and colleges across Punjab, helping build a mass movement to protect Punjab’s youth from addiction.

Tarun Chugh alleged that Punjab’s jails have become hubs of organised crime and narcotics networks, from where gangsters continue to operate fearlessly. He said politically influenced policing, weak governance, and administrative paralysis have emboldened anti-national and criminal elements in this highly sensitive border state.

Chugh demanded that teachers be immediately relieved from non-academic duties, Punjab Police be redirected towards law enforcement and anti-drug operations, and Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann accept moral responsibility and resign immediately.
