CU Punjab Organizes Workshop on Bharatiya Bhasha Pustak Yojana to Promote Indian Languages in Higher Education

The Central University of Punjab, in collaboration with the Bharatiya Bhasha Samiti, Ministry of Education, Government of India, organized a one-day workshop on “Bharatiya Bhasha Pustak Yojana” with the objective of promoting the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and encouraging the preparation of academic and learning resources in Indian languages.

Addressing the gathering, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra Prasad Tiwari emphasized the significance of mother languages in the learning process. He stated that students educated in their mother tongue become more confident and develop a stronger ability to understand other languages as well. 

Highlighting the regional context, he stressed that Punjabi language should be accorded a central place in the educational ecosystem of Punjab. Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kiran Hazarika elaborated on the role of mother languages in education within the framework of the Indian Knowledge System and emphasized the need to preserve and strengthen indigenous linguistic traditions in higher education institutions.

Prof. Sanjeev Sharma, guest of the workshop, discussed the objectives and importance of the Bharatiya Bhasha Pustak Yojana in ensuring accessible, inclusive, and quality education through Indian languages. The keynote speaker, Dr. Krishan Kumar Pandey, delivered a detailed presentation on the scheme, covering its vision, implementation process, institutional framework, operational mechanisms, quality assurance measures, digital governance systems, and opportunities available for authors, translators, reviewers, and higher educational institutions.

The workshop also focused on operational mechanisms of the scheme, quality assurance processes, digital governance systems, and capacity-building opportunities for authors, translators, reviewers, and institutions. Faculty members, researchers, academicians, and students actively participated in the event, making it a meaningful platform for discussion on the promotion of Indian languages in higher education.

Dr. Vijay Sharma, Registrar, applauded the organizers for successful execution of this event. The welcome address was delivered by Workshop Coordinator Prof. Neelu Rawat, while the vote of thanks was proposed by Co-Coordinator Dr. Sarabjit Singh Mann.

The workshop witnessed active participation from faculty members, researchers, academicians, and students, who engaged in meaningful discussions on strengthening Indian languages and promoting multilingual learning in higher education.
