Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Wednesday asserted that peace remains the foremost prerequisite for development and urged people across the state to stand united in achieving lasting harmony. In a significant push to strengthen infrastructure across Assembly constituencies, the Chief Minister inaugurated five development projects in the Langthabal Assembly constituency.
Addressing a function held in Imphal West district to mark the inauguration, Singh highlighted his continued engagement over the past two months and 20 days with MLAs, officials and people from diverse communities to collectively foster peace.
He said that he has been extensively visiting both hill and valley regions, including Jiribam, Senapati, Kangpokpi and Ukhrul districts, to directly address public grievances and understand local concerns. Sharing his observations, Singh noted that people from all communities have expressed a strong desire for the restoration of peace.
The Chief Minister also expressed concern over recent incidents that disrupted the peace process, stating that those responsible would be identified soon. The projects inaugurated on Wednesday include three water supply schemes and two community halls located at Naran Konjil Mayai Leikai and Naorem Leikai.
Singh appealed to citizens to maintain harmony and remain vigilant against disruptive elements attempting to create division within society. He assured that developmental work would continue across all regions, including remote and far-flung areas, despite existing challenges.
The Chief Minister further called for close cooperation between the public and the government to build a peaceful and progressive Manipur. Speaking at the event, Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho commended Singh for his proactive outreach across the state, including visits to remote areas such as Jiribam, Senapati and Ukhrul districts.
He noted that the Chief Minister has adopted a distinctive approach by personally interacting with people from different communities and listening to their concerns firsthand. Dikho added that even residents in distant areas from Imphal have appreciated these visits and have expressed confidence in the leadership.
He urged civil society organisations and the public to work together to preserve peace and harmony, warning that hatred and division would only harm the state and hinder progress. Emphasising that peace is achievable, Dikho said it requires unity and coordinated efforts between the government and the people.
Langthabal Assembly constituency MLA Karam Shyam said the newly inaugurated water supply schemes would ensure access to clean drinking water for residents of the constituency. He added that the two community halls would help address long-standing challenges faced by locals in organising social and community events.
The legislator observed that these projects would have a direct and positive impact on the daily lives of the people. He also raised concerns regarding the poor condition of inter-village roads in the constituency and urged the Chief Minister to take necessary action.
Shyam said some development works had been delayed earlier due to legal issues but noted that progress has now resumed. Expressing optimism, he said that under the present government, people would receive improved infrastructure and the benefits of sustained development. Senior officials, including Imphal West Deputy Commissioner Mayanglambam Rajkumar Singh, among others, attended the function.
