MLA Bram Shanker Jimpa and MLA Dr. Ishank Kumar Chabbewal on Thursday evening initiated the wheat procurement at the local grain market saying Punjab government is committed to procure every single grain of farmers' crop and farmers will not be faced any sort of hassle while selling their yield in the mandis.
MLA Bram Shanker Jimpa and MLA Dr. Ishank Kumar Chabbewal said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the state government had taken path-breaking steps for the farmers’ welfare. MLA Jimpa said that Punjab had always stood at forefront to make the nation self reliant on food security front by producing record wheat and paddy across the country.
‘’Punjab government is ensuring timely payments for the purchase of farmers’ crops. The administrative officers have also been told to maintain the continuity of smooth arrangements in the mandis so that farmers can get timely procurement as well as lifting wishing minimal time.
The efforts of CM Bhagwant Singh Mann turned into seamless procurement in Punjab since 2022 after taking reins of the state by the Aam Aadmi Party’’ he added. While interacting with the farmers, MLA Dr. Ishank Kumar Chabbewal said that the Punjab government had ensured daytime power supply to farmers, provided water for irrigation at tail end in the state and easy procurement of farmers' crops.
He asserted that smooth procurement would be ensured to facilitate farmers as the Government had made adequate arrangements for the arhtiyas and necessary facilities for labor. He said that CM Bhagwant Singh Mann had already reiterated that grain of farmers would be purchased despite untimely rains.
Pertinently, over MT of wheat is arrived in the mandis, of which more than 1610 MT have been purchased. Of the total 78 mandis in the district, farmers have brought wheat to 46 mandis and the concerned officials are completing the procurement process.
Wheat is being procured in the district by PUNGRAIN, MARKFED, PUNSUP, Punjab State Warehouse Corporation, FCI and traders. A total of 316000 metric tonnes of wheat is expected to arrive in the district during the current season and in addition to payment to the farmers within 48 hours, lifting will be ensured within 72 hours.
Farmer Balwinder Singh of village Dada said that he had reached the mandi this morning and his crop was procured by afternoon. Market Committee Chairman Jaspal Singh Chechi said that all necessary arrangements have been made in the mandi so that the procurement process can be completed smoothly.
Mayor Surinder Kumar, SDM Amandeep Kaur Ghuman, Councillor Balwinder Kumar, Varinder Vaid, Kulwinder Hundal, Honey Sood were also present on this occasion.
