With a view to ensure acceleration in making the benefits of food security reach the beneficiaries, the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department has commenced the process of allotting Fair Price Shops (FPS). The Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Mr. Lal Chand Kataruchak today revealed in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha that the District Food Supply Controllers (DFSCs) have invited applications from interested candidates for allotment of Fair Price Shops.

The applications have been invited against 8291 Rural and 1686 Urban vacancies, divulged the Minister adding that the process is going on war footing and till now, a total of 7876 persons have applied. The process is likely to be completed in the next two months and afterwards 7500 ration depots would be allotted.

The path breaking initiative would serve a two fold purpose. Firstly, it would fasten the process of ensuring Food security and secondly, it would generate ample employment opportunities for the people of State.
