The School of Advanced Sciences (SAS) of VIT-AP University organized a vibrant program to mark National Science Day, encouraging students to cultivate curiosity, logical thinking, and a scientific attitude in everyday life. National Science Day is celebrated in India every year on 28 February to commemorate the discovery of the Raman Effect by C. V. Raman, for which he was awarded the Nobel Prize.

The event was graced by distinguished dignitaries including Chief Guest shri A. S. Kiran Kumar, Former ISRO Chairman and Padma Shri Awardee; Guest of Honour Emeritus Prof. Prasanta K. Panigrahi, Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Kolkata; Prof. Rao Tatavarti, Former DRDO Scientist; and Dr. Rajkumar Elagiri Ramalingam, AI Governance leader, Mphasis, Bengaluru.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Guest A. S. Kiran Kumar emphasized that the importance of National Science Day lies in inspiring young minds to understand the value of science in national development and everyday life.“Technology is evolving day by day. This is the time for students to explore themselves and the power of emerging technologies, shaping their skills to become the future leaders of India. 

By embracing science and innovation, they can help the nation achieve the vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047. He urges young minds to become dedicated scientists and let India shine across the world through their talent and determination,” he said.

Guest of Honour Emeritus Prof. Prasanta K. Panigrahi noted that National Science Day encourages students to question, experiment, and explore new ideas that can solve real-world problems and strengthen the nation’s future, while honoring the contributions of Indian scientists.

Prof. Rao Tatavarti, Former DRDO Scientist, highlighted that the day serves as an important opportunity for students to cultivate curiosity and scientific temper. He stressed that the youth of India must actively engage in science and innovation to make the country self-reliant and globally competitive, particularly in space, technology, and research.

Dr. Rajkumar Elagiri Ramalingam, AI Governance, Mphasis, Bengaluru, underscored the growing relevance of scientific thinking in industry. Students must combine technological expertise with ethical responsibility and problem-solving abilities to drive sustainable growth and innovation,” he stated.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. P. Arulmozhivarman Vice Chancellor of VIT-AP University remarked:“National Science Day reinforces our commitment to fostering a strong research culture and nurturing innovative thinkers. At VIT-AP University, we strive to create an ecosystem where students are encouraged to question, experiment, and transform ideas into impactful solutions for society.”

Students from 30 schools in Guntur and Vijayawada have participated in the National Science day program. The winners in various competitions were rewarded with first and second prizes on the occasion.

The program concluded with a renewed commitment from the School of Advanced Sciences to promote interdisciplinary research, innovation, and scientific excellence, inspiring students to contribute meaningfully toward building a developed and self-reliant India.
