In line with India’s agenda on skill development, Aryans Group of Colleges, today organized a seminar on “Skill Development in India: Challenges and Opportunities”, at PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Chandigarh. The event was attended by various Industrialists, Academicians and hundreds of students from the city. Mr. Dilip Chenoy, MD and CEO, National Skill Development Corporation was the Hon’ble Chief Guest at the event while Mr. Dalip Sharma, Regional Director, PHD Chamber was the Guest of Honor. Dr. Anshu Kataria, Chairman, Aryans Group of Colleges presided over the event.Dr. Anshu Kataria, Chairman, Aryans Group of Colleges began the event with his address speech. The seminar witnessed a fruitful discussion around the opportunities and challenges in skill development across varied sectors in the country and how the all stakeholders should come together to create a healthy ecosystem for a skilled India.

Addressing the audience at the seminar, Dilip Chenoy, MD & CEO, National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) said, “There is an urgent need for the industry &academia to come together and contribute to the skilling ecosystem by designing persified skill training programs. This will empower the youth and help them become gainfully employed or self-employed. The focus should be on skilling, up-skilling and re-skilling across all sectors, according to the industry standards defined by the Sector Skill Councils. We have taken up this challenge and I am sure with our wide network of 150 partners and 31 Sector Skill Councils, we will be able to set-up a successful skilling ecosystem in the country.”

“Our target is to skill 3.3 million youth in 2014-15.  The target committed for the current fiscal is nearly three and half times of what was set and achieved in 2013-14. Last year, NSDC crossed its target of skilling a million youth by a few thousands. Including the number of people skilled under the National Skill Certification and Reward Scheme also known as STAR scheme, the total for 2013-14 was 1.3 million+ skilled Indians”, he further added.Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Dalip Sharma said, “In today’s competitive world, industries look for skilled manpower as there is little time to invest in their training. When an employee joins, he is expected to have a basic skill to adapt to his new role. Thanks to NSDC and its training partners, skilling programs have become more accessible today. I encourage all candidates here, to plan for their career carefully and acquire technical and soft skills, which will help increase their efficiency and productivity.”Also present on the occasion were Dr P K Vasudeva, Member, Consumer Commission; Mr J N Vohra, Advisor, Textile & Hosiery Industry, Ludhiana; Mr A K Gandhi, Past President, CMA; Brig Sahney, Former Director, Punjab State Council for Science & Technology; Col.MGS Khurana and Mr Surinder Verma, EC Members, CMA etc.
