In a significant milestone, the Central University of Punjab (CU Punjab) has made its debut in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2026, securing a position in the global rank band of 601–800 among 2,191 top universities from 115 countries. The ranking highlights CU Punjab’s notable performance across multiple evaluation indicators.

This achievement has been realized under the guidance of Hon’ble Union Education Minister Shri Dharmendra Pradhan and the dynamic leadership of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari. The THE World University Rankings assess institutions across five core pillars: teaching, research environment, research quality, international outlook, and industry income.

In this edition, only ten Indian higher education institutions have secured positions among the top 600, with the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore (Rank Band 201–250) leading the list. Additionally, a total of 17 Indian universities, including the Central University of Punjab, have featured in the 601–800 global rank band.

Welcoming the results, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari said, "CU Punjab has made remarkable progress in research output and citation impact in recent years, reflecting the quality of our research work. Quality Higher Education and Research are the hallmark of our university and this success is the collective outcome of the dedication and commitment of our faculty, research scholars, students, and stakeholders, which has elevated the stature of our university across all parameters.

We are confident that our achievements will continue to be increasingly reflected in future rankings." Prof. Tiwari further asserted that India now has the second highest number of ranked universities in THE World University Rankings 2026, behind only the United States, and emphasized that CU Punjab remains committed to representing the country on the international stage through excellence in education, research, and innovation.
