The District Level Cooperative Development Committee (DLCDC) meeting was today convened by Deputy Registrar Cooperative Societies (Agri) Mirza Mumtaz Iqbal. District Development Commissioner (DDC) Pankaj Kumar Sharma chaired the meeting.

The meeting held threadbare discussions on various important points, including the registration of the District Cooperative Federation, implementation of the World’s Largest Grain Storage Plan in the Cooperative Sector, review of the progress achieved under the Margdarshika Programme and approval of units under the Food Processing Scheme for Cooperative Societies/Cooperatives.

Speaking on the occasion, the DDC emphasized the need to strengthen the cooperative movement at the grassroots level, adding that cooperatives play a vital role in ensuring the socio-economic empowerment of people.

The DDC directed the officers to reach out to farmers to encourage them to form Cooperatives and market Kala Zeera, Chilgoza, organic garlic and other niche local products that hold immense potential to create strong market opportunities not only in the district but also across the country.

The DDC also directed the officers to reach out to farmers engaged in apiculture in the district and promote formation of beekeeping cooperatives to boost honey production and create new livelihood opportunities. He urged all concerned departments and stakeholders to work in close coordination for the effective implementation of government initiatives in the cooperative sector.

The Deputy Registrar Cooperative Societies briefed the committee about the progress of ongoing schemes and assured all possible support to the registered cooperatives for maximizing benefits under various programmes.

The meeting concluded with a resolve to further promote cooperative institutions in the district and encourage wider participation of people in the cooperative sector. The meeting was attended by ADC Pawan Kotwal; ACR Idrees Lone; CHO Sajid Mustafa; AD Handicrafts Pardeep Shan; AD Fisheries; Assistant Registrar Cooperative Societies Amit Sharma; Assistant Registrar Marwah Sanjay Singh; Assistant Registrar Chatroo Qazi Akhtar Hussain; I/C Assistant Registrar Padder Lovemeet Kotwal (Senior Supervisor); JCCB Manager Kishtwar, besides other concerned officers.
