In its endeavour to promote innovative and translational research aimed at advancing public and national well-being, leveraging expertise from both national and international institutions, a CU Punjab Research Scholar has been awarded an International Fellowship to advance research in Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD).

Mr. Ajay Elangovan, PhD Research Scholar and Project Research Scientist – I (DHR-ICMR) at the Neurobiology (Ageing and Pediatric) Laboratory [NAP Lab], Department of Zoology, CU Punjab, has been selected for a six-month Exchange Fellowship to pursue a part of his doctoral research at the Department of Neurobiology, University of Utah, USA. This fellowship will provide him with international exposure and strengthen the scientific impact of his work.

Mr. Elangovan is conducting his research under the guidance of Dr. Balachandar Vellingiri, Group Leader (recognized among the world’s top 2% scientists for seven consecutive years). NAP Lab focuses on neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative disorders in the Indian population. His work, carried out with co-mentorship from Dr. Arvinder Wander, Pediatric Neurologist at AIIMS Bathinda, focuses on Non-coding RNAs, particularly lncRNAs and miRNAs, in ASD.

On this occasion, Honourable Vice Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari congratulated Mr. Ajay Elangovan on his achievement. Prof. Aklank Jain, Head of the Department of Zoology, along with other faculty members, also lauded his accomplishment, highlighting that this fellowship will not only advance his academic career but also contribute to enhancing the global visibility and reputation of CU Punjab’s research.
