The MLA from Kartarpur Balkar Singh and Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal today initiated the procurement of paddy at the Kartarpur grain market. They stated that the Punjab Government has ensured proper arrangements in the mandis and there would be no difficulty for farmers during the procurement season.
The MLA and Deputy Commissioner said that under the leadership of Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab Government is committed to procuring every single grain of the farmers’ produce. Keeping this in mind, arrangements have been made in the mandis for the arrival, procurement, lifting, and payment of paddy, along with other necessary measures.
They said that this year, the procurement of paddy has started earlier than in previous years so that farmers get more days to sell their crop. They further added that despite the challenges caused by floods, the Punjab Government has ensured solid arrangements in the mandis, and smooth procurement, lifting, and timely payments will be guaranteed.
Balkar Singh and Dr. Aggarwal appealed to the farmers to harvest the crop only when it is fully ripe, so that the moisture content remains low and procurement can be carried out smoothly without any hurdles. They also urged farmers not to burn paddy stubble but to manage it using the machinery provided by the Agriculture Department in order to prevent environmental pollution.
On this occasion, Santokh Singh, a farmer from village Pattar Kalan, whose crop was purchased today, expressed his gratitude to the Punjab Government for the immediate procurement of his produce and for the arrangements made in the mandis.
