Punjab Water Resources Minister Barinder Kumar Goyal on Thursday visited village Mandala Chhanna to review the strengthening work of the vulnerable Dhussi Bundh. The work is being carried out by the Drainage Department with the active support of hundreds of volunteers, Sangat, and Army officials.

Accompained by MP Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal, Additional Deputy Commissioner Jasbir Singh, the Minister reiterated the Punjab Government’s commitment, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, to safeguard people from flood like situation by reinforcing the bundh. He highlighted that dedicated teams of Jalandhar Administration, the Drainage Department, and Army units are working round the clock under the supervision of Rajya Sabha Member Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal to secure this crucial embankment along the Satluj River.

Mr. Goyal further emphasized that there is no shortage of resources for this vital task, as the government has already taken all necessary steps to ensure uninterrupted supply of materials and manpower. He appreciated the relentless efforts of the administration and Army, SDRF while particularly lauding the spirit of Sangat who have joined hands to protect the region from a potential flood-like situation.

He also said that the strengthening work will further be carried out once water level was receded here. Noting that the erosion of the bundh was caused by the river’s strong flow directed towards it, the Minister assured that “no stone will be left unturned” to protect the embankment and ensure the safety of people living in nearby areas.

He also mentioned that timely compensation will be given is case of damage caused by floods as Punjab Government has already directed officials to conduct prompt Girdawari of damage caused by floods and heavy rains.
