Former Member of Parliament, Smt. Preneet Kaur, has extended her heartfelt gratitude to Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji for his recent visit to Punjab to personally review the flood situation and for announcing an additional relief package of ₹1,600 crore for the state, over and above the ₹12,000 crore already sanctioned earlier.

She said that this timely announcement has provided much-needed reassurance to the people of Punjab that the Central Government stands firmly with them in this time of distress. Highlighting the dire situation in Patiala district, Smt. Preneet Kaur informed the Prime Minister that incessant rains and floods have devastated nearly 133 villages and destroyed more than 42,000 acres of fertile agricultural land, leaving thousands of families in extreme hardship.

She urged that special attention be given to Patiala, which suffers from recurrent flooding almost every year due to the Ghaggar, Tangri, and Markanda rivers. She further requested the Hon’ble Prime Minister to direct the Central Water Commission to undertake a detailed study and recommend a permanent solution for the Ghaggar river so that the people of Patiala and adjoining areas may finally be freed from this recurring calamity.

Reiterating her appreciation, Smt. Preneet Kaur thanked the Prime Minister for his compassionate visit and assured that the people of Punjab, with the Central Government’s support, will overcome this difficult phase.
