On the momentous occasion of the 79th Independence Day, the Central University of Punjab fraternity joined the nation in celebrating our hard-earned freedom with patriotic zeal and unity of spirit.

As part of the programme, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari ceremoniously unfurled both the National Flag and the University Flag at the CU Punjab Campus. The Flag Hoisting Ceremony was gracefully followed by an inspection of the parade.

Extending Independence Day greetings to all participants, Prof. Tiwari highlighted Punjab’s pivotal role in India’s freedom struggle, recalling the countless sons and daughters who made the ultimate sacrifice.

“We bow in reverence to our martyrs and draw inspiration from their indomitable courage,” he remarked. True Swadheenta derived from swa (self) and adheen (governance) he explained, calls for self-reliance in every sphere of life: local, regional, and national.

It is our responsibility to build systems rooted in truth, enriched with both worldly and spiritual wisdom, and dedicated to societal betterment. He underscored that education is the cornerstone of this vision, guided by its four key purposes learning to know, learning to do, learning to live together, and learning to be.

Higher Education Institutions, he stressed, must lead the way in nurturing skills, promoting entrepreneurship, and fostering innovation to achieve the national goal of Viksit Bharat @ 2047. On this occasion, the University honoured Ex-Army Serviceman S. Jagjeet Singh Ji, father of martyr S. Harbans Singh Ji of the 10th Sikh Battalion, who laid down his life on 4 August 1998 in the Uri Sector, J&K.

His valour and sacrifice, Prof. Tiwari noted, continue to inspire us all. Adding an artistic touch to the celebrations, students from the Department of Performing and Fine Arts presented a captivating performance of patriotic songs.

The stage proceedings were conducted by Prof. Ramanpreet Kaur, who also introduced the programme theme. The ceremony concluded with a formal vote of thanks by Registrar Dr. Vijay Sharma. Faculty, staff, students, and residents from Ghudda participated wholeheartedly in this memorable event.
