In a major breakthrough, Rupnagar Police arrested three gangsters after an armed encounter in an abandoned building. Arrested persons were involved in the brutal daylight murder of a man in Amritsar (Rural) on July 4, 2025.

Disclosing the details in a press confrence, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rupnagar, Mr. Gulneet Singh Khurana, said that under the ongoing state-wide crackdown against anti-social elements and gangsters by Punjab Police, a joint team led by SP (Detective) Gurdeep Singh Gosal and DSP (Sri Anandpur Sahib Subdivision) Ajay Singh, along with CIA Incharge Inspector Manphool Singh and SHO Nurpur Bedi Inspector Sunil Kumar, carried out this operation.

He informed that the CIA Incharge had received a tip-off that three individuals with criminal backgrounds were hiding inside an abandoned structure near the Sutlej River in village Bhindranagar area. Acting swiftly, both police teams cordoned off the building around 1:30 AM. Upon spotting the police, one of the suspects opened fire, hitting a police Bolero vehicle. Police retaliated and successfully overpowered and apprehended the accused during the encounter.

Mr. Khurana identified the arrested gangsters as Gurwinder Singh alias Bhola, resident of village Channanke, PS Chownk Mehta, District Amritsar (Rural), Navtej Singh alias Teji, resident of village Jabbowal, PS Baba Bakala, District Amritsar and Gurpreet Singh alias Gopi, resident of village Sara, PS Mattewal, District Amritsar.

During the exchange of fire, Gurwinder Singh alias Bhola sustained a bullet injury on his right thigh and was immediately taken to Rupnagar Civil Hospital by ambulance. He is currently under treatment at PGI Chandigarh.

He said that a case has been registered against the accused under FIR No. 93 dated 25.07.2025 under Sections 109, 3(5) BNS & 25-54-50 Arms Act at Police Station Nurpur Bedi. One Glock 9mm pistol, a magazine, one live cartridge, and three spent shells were recovered from Gurwinder Singh.

SSP further revealed that, during preliminary interrogation, persons confessed to the murder of Jagraj Singh (28), son of Sukhjinder Singh, resident of village Channanke, District Amritsar (Rural), at around 7:45 AM on July 4, 2025, in front of the gate of Gurdwara Baba Budha Sahib, Channanke.

He said that after committing the crime, the accused fled and went into hiding at various locations, eventually settling in Rupnagar. Police had been conducting continuous raids to nab them.

These persons are also wanted in case, FIR No. 76 dated 04.07.2025 under Sections 103(1), 3(5) of BNS-2023 and 25/54/59 of the Arms Act, registered at PS Mehta, Amritsar (Rural). SSP added that the accused are being presented in court for remand, and further revelations are expected during interrogation.
