Deputy Commissioner of Rupnagar, Mr. Varjeet Walia, today visited flood-prone areas of the district to review ground-level preparedness and preventive measures aimed at protecting the lives, property, and livestock of the general public. During his visit to villages including Bhallri, Agampur, Shahpur Bela, and Khad Bathlor, the Deputy Commissioner interacted with local residents and assured them that the district administration is maintaining strict vigilance on the evolving flood situation.

He said that continuous monitoring is being carried out on the water levels in the Sutlej and Swan river, as well as water inflow into the Bhakra Dam, especially in light of heavy rainfall in the hilly regions. Mr. Walia directed officials to conduct field assessments of all areas that experienced flood damage in previous years and implement necessary precautionary arrangements without delay.

He emphasized that obstructions in village drains, seasonal rivulets, canals, culverts, and drainage outlets are often key causes of flooding and instructed concerned departments to ensure complete and timely maintenance of these systems. The Deputy Commissioner added that while the current water level poses no immediate threat, it remains the administration’s duty to stay fully prepared in advance to tackle any unforeseen situation efficiently.

He also instructed all departments to remain alert during the monsoon season and ensure uninterrupted delivery of basic services. He visited various previously affected areas to inspect the current condition of flood protection infrastructure and directed necessary repairs where required.

On this occasion, Additional Deputy Commissioner Chandrajyoti Singh, Chief Minister Field Officer Abhimanyu Malik, RTA Gurvinder Singh Johal, SDM Sachin Pathak, XEN Mining Tushar Goyal, and other senior officials were present.
