The District Administration Ramban, in collaboration with the Social Welfare Department and other line departments organized a comprehensive awareness programme in the Conference Hall, Maitra to mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

The programme aimed to raise awareness about the ill effects of substance abuse and promote a drug-free society. Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Alyas Khan was the Chief Guest at the event.

The programme was also graced by Additional Deputy Commissioner Varunjeet Singh Charak, ACR Shokat Hayat Matoo, ACP Mohd Ashfaq, CMO Dr. Kamal Je Zadu, along with Tehsildars, BDOs, TSWO, doctors, officials from the Social Welfare Department and students from various schools and ITI Ramban.

Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Commissioner emphasized that drug abuse is a grave threat to individuals, families, and society, with the potential to cripple the future of generations. He called for mission-mode efforts involving all sections of society to combat this menace.

The DC further highlighted that the District Administration has already launched intensified anti-drug campaigns at district and panchayat levels, aimed at fostering community participation in eliminating drugs abuse from the grassroots.

The ADC, in his remarks, stressed the role of awareness, counseling, and public participation in building a drug-free society. He urged citizens to utilize the National De-addiction Helpline 14446 for assistance.

Earlier, the programme began with an anti-drug pledge. The participants resolved to fight against drug abuse and build a healthier, addiction-free community. Resource persons from different departments delivered talks on the psychological, physical, and social consequences of drug abuse, as well as prevention strategies and rehabilitation options.

Medical experts elaborated on the stages of addiction and the importance of early intervention. Adding a youth-driven dimension to the campaign, students from ITI Ramban delivered lectures and organized a mini-seminar to engage fellow participants. Their active participation reflected the crucial role of youth in leading the fight against substance abuse.
