64 Para Players participate in Mini Marathon Organized by District Administration

In a remarkable display of determination and inclusivity, differently-abled para players actively participated in the Mini Marathon organized by the District Administration, Rupnagar. The event, aimed at promoting fitness, inclusivity, and resilience, witnessed an overwhelming response from participants and dignitaries alike in which 64 Para Players participated.

The marathon was inaugurated by MLA, Rupnagar, Mr. Dinesh Chadha, Deputy Commissioner, Rupnagar, Mr. Himanshu Jain, along with several district-level officers, who extended their encouragement and support to the participants. Their presence highlighted the administration’s commitment to fostering an inclusive sports culture where every individual, regardless of their physical abilities, gets equal opportunities to showcase their talent and spirit.

Lauding the arrangements being made for para players, state gold medallist in shot put para player Mr. Rohit Kumar said that it was the first time when district administration made special arrangements for their community in marathon. He also expressed his gratitude towards the Deputy Commissioner Mr. Himanshu Jain for recognising their achievement and inviting differently abled sports persons from various institutions.

It is worth mentioning that in this mini marathon, students of Prakash Memorial School Rupnagar, those took part in National games being organised by Punjab Deaf & Dumb Sports Association, namely Akshit Kumar athlete, shot put gold medalist Ayush Kumar, cricket player Lov Dadwal, judo player Simonpreet Singh, athlete Mehak and athlete Ashish Chaudhary also participated. 

Out of which 2 players Gurpreet Singh and Simonpreet Singh will be participating in the upcoming international level para games.Similarly, 31 para players from Prabh Asra also participated in a mini marathon. Out of these players, Harampreet Singh is gold medalist in long jump in the state level competition of Kheda Watan Punjab Diya-2024, Arbaaz (gold medalist in shot put), Soni (gold medalist in long jump) and (bronze medalist in 400 shot put) become centre of attraction on this occasion.

Apart from this, state level Para Sports winner Rohit Kumar from Govt Sen.Sec. School Kartarpur, Gold Medalist in Shot Put Akash Kumar also participated in this marathon and motivated the youth to make sports as a part of their daily life.

Speaking at the event, MLA Shri Dinesh Chadha applauded the para players for their indomitable courage and dedication, stating that they serve as an inspiration to society. DC Mr. Himanshu Jain reiterated the administration’s commitment to promoting accessible sports initiatives and ensuring better facilities for differently-abled athletes.

The event concluded on a high note with all participants being honoured for their efforts and enthusiasm. The District Administration, Rupnagar, reaffirmed its commitment to organizing more such inclusive events, encouraging sportsmanship, and spreading the message of perseverance and equality.
