The Punjab Government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, is undertaking initiatives to conserve water by installing underground pipelines in Fazilka district. A meeting was held under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Amarpreet Kaur Sandhu, IAS, to review the applications received for this initiative.

On this occasion, the Deputy Commissioner stated that the government provides up to 90% subsidy for the installation of community pipeline networks. She emphasized that these pipelines ensure faster water supply and prevent water loss in open channels, leading to the optimal utilization of water resources and an adequate water supply for irrigation.

Divisional Soil Conservation Officer Gurinder Singh informed that a total of 85 applications were received for the laying of community pipelines in the district, out of which 62 were found eligible. He further mentioned that the installation of these underground pipelines would cost ₹16.27 crore and benefit 3,413 hectares of agricultural land by providing adequate irrigation water.

Also present at the meeting were Executive Engineer of the Mandi Board, Sahil Gagneja, Dr. Mamta from the Agriculture Department, SDO Vikas Poonia from the Soil Conservation Department, and other officials.
