Prof. Raghavendra Prasad Tiwari, the Vice-Chancellor of the Central University of Punjab, has been honored with the ‘Professor W.D. West Memorial Oration Award 2025’ by Dr. Harisingh Gour University, Sagar (M.P.), for his remarkable contributions in the field of education and research. The Department of Applied Geology at Dr. Harisingh Gour University has been presenting the ‘Professor W.D. West Oration Award’ annually since 1967 to distinguished professors and geoscientists for their outstanding contributions to the field of geosciences. 

This year, this prestigious award was conferred upon Prof. Raghavendra Prasad Tiwari for his exemplary academic contributions and his extensive service of over four decades in esteemed higher educational institutions across India. During his visit to Bathinda, Prof. P.K. Kathal, Senior Professor from the Department of Applied Geology at Dr. Harisingh Gour University, presented this award to Prof. Tiwari in a special ceremony organized at CU Punjab. 

The award comprises a certificate, a commemorative shield, a shawl, and a Srifal as a token of honor. While presenting the award, Prof. P.K. Kathal conveyed a message from the Vice-Chancellor of Dr. Harisingh Gour University, stating that Prof. Tiwari is an illustrious alumnus of the Department of Applied Geology who has brought immense pride to the department. 

He was acknowledged as a distinguished academician who has upheld the values and excellence of the university. His contributions to the field of geology serve as an inspiration for future generations of geoscientists. Expressing his gratitude, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Tiwari extended heartfelt thanks to his alma mater, particularly Prof. Neelima Gupta, Vice-Chancellor of Dr. Harisingh Gour University, and Prof. Athokpam K. Singh, Head of the Department of Applied Geology, for this esteemed recognition.

The event was graced by distinguished guests, including Prof. Nitin R. Karmalkar, Former Vice-Chancellor of Savitribai Phule Pune University. Other notable attendees included Prof. R.K. Wusurika, Dean Incharge of Academics; Prof. Sanjeev Thakur, Dean of Student Welfare; Prof. Yogalakshmi, Dean of the School of Environment and Earth Sciences and Head of the Department of Environmental Science & Technology (EVST); Prof. Sunil Mittal, Internal Audit Officer; Dr. K.K. Singh, Head of the Department of Geology; and Dr. Shruti Kanga, Head of the Department of Geography. Faculty members and students from the School of Environment and Earth Sciences were also present.

Before assuming the role of Vice-Chancellor at the Central University of Punjab, Prof. Raghavendra Prasad Tiwari served as the Vice-Chancellor of Dr. Harisingh Gour University, Sagar (M.P.). As an esteemed alumnus of the university, his contributions have been widely acknowledged. This recognition has brought immense pride and joy to the Central University of Punjab fraternity.
