The Department of Biochemistry and Multidisciplinary Research Unit (MRU) Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar successfully concluded a two day Workshop cum Continuing Medical Education (CME) program on Biochemical and Molecular Diagnostics.

The event aimed to update the participants on advancements in molecular biology and their clinical applications. Secretary Health and Medical Education, Dr. Syed Abid Rashid Shah, was chief guest on the valedictory ceremony.

Dr. Iffat Hassan, Principal/Dean GMC Srinagar (Patron of the CME), Dr. Sabhiya Majeed, HOD Bio Chemistry, other HODs, CAO, administrative officers, Medical Superintendents, health functionaries from  various health institutions, under graduate &  post graduate besides para medical students attended the workshop.

Speaking on the occasion, the Secretary emphasised the importance of integrating modern diagnostic techniques into clinical practice to enhance patient care. 

"Molecular diagnostics has revolutionized healthcare, enabling early detection and targeted treatment. It's crucial for medical professionals to stay updated on these advancements,” he asserted.

He impressed upon the medical students to fully concentrate on their  studies so as to become skilled professionals.  He complimented the Govt Medical College Srinagar for organising series of CMEs and workshops providing a better learning & experience sharing platform.

Professor Iffat Hassan Shah, Principal/Dean GMC Srinagar, while addressing the workshop, said that this CME program demonstrates GMC Srinagar's commitment towards academic excellence and research innovation. 

We strive to provide our students and faculty with opportunities for continuous learning and growth. Dr. Sabhiya Majid, Organizing Chairperson and Head Department of Biochemistry highlighted the workshop's objectives. 

She maintained "Our goal was to provide the participants with hands-on training and exposure to cutting-edge molecular diagnostic techniques.

We're grateful to our participants for making this event a success." The event featured a Pre-CME workshop that provided the participants with hands-on training in various molecular biology techniques. 

Attendees, including postgraduate students, researchers and healthcare professionals, were trained in state-of-the-art molecular diagnostics under the guidance of expert faculty. 

This practical exposure enhanced their technical skills and understanding of key diagnostic methodologies. Another feature of the event was insightful lectures by National and International Experts workshop-cum-CME program reaffirmed GMC Srinagar’s commitment towards academic excellence, research innovation and capacity building in the field of biochemical and molecular diagnostics.

The organizing team headed by Prof Sabhiya Majid, Organising  Chairperson and assisted by Co Organising Chairperson, Prof Roohi Ashraf, Organising Secretaries, Dr Nissar Ahmad Naikoo, Dr Rafiqa Eachkoti, Dr Tabassum Rashid and Dr Mohammad Younis Rather moderated various sessions of the CME  and made the event a resounding success.
