In a scathing criticism of the Aam Aadmi Party's fiscal mismanagement, Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, President of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee and Member of Parliament from Ludhiana, lambasted the AAP government for seeking an additional borrowing limit of Rs 10,000 crore from the Centre. This reckless borrowing, he warned, is pushing Punjab into a debt trap that will have devastating consequences for both current and future generations.
“The Aam Aadmi Party, under the leadership of Bhagwant Mann, has shown a complete disregard for Punjab’s economic stability. By seeking an additional Rs 10,000 crore in borrowings, the AAP government is not only burdening the state with insurmountable debt but also setting the stage for the economic destruction of Punjab,” Raja Warring stated.
He emphasized that the state’s finances are already in shambles, with the government having exhausted a significant portion of its sanctioned borrowing limit and resorting to desperate measures like raising taxes and cutting subsidies. The PPCC Chief pointed out that while the AAP government continues to borrow heavily, there is no visible improvement in the state's infrastructure or services.
Where is all this money going? It’s certainly not being used for the betterment of Punjab. Instead, these funds are being funneled into AAP’s election campaigns in other states and to fuel their propaganda machine here in Punjab. The people of Punjab deserve to know how their hard-earned money is being squandered on false advertisements and hollow promises,” he charged.
He further criticized the recent decisions taken by the AAP government, which have only added to the financial woes of the common man. “The withdrawal of subsidized power for domestic consumers, the increase in VAT on fuel, and the hike in bus fares are direct attacks on the livelihoods of the middle class and the common man. These measures are burning a hole in their pockets, all because the AAP government cannot manage its finances responsibly,” he said.
Raja Warring did not mince words in his criticism of CM Bhagwant Mann, holding him accountable for the dire financial situation Punjab finds itself in. “Bhagwant Mann and his government are mortgaging the future of our state. It’s the people of Punjab who will have to bear the brunt of this debt—through higher taxes, reduced services, and a declining quality of life. This is a betrayal of the trust placed in them by the people of Punjab.”
He concluded by calling for immediate accountability and transparency from the AAP government. “Punjab cannot afford to be governed by a party that prioritizes its political ambitions over the welfare of its people. The AAP government must answer for its fiscal irresponsibility and stop playing with the future of our state,” Raja Warring asserted.
