District Election Officer (DEO) Kishtwar, Rajesh Kumar Shavan chaired a meeting with SVEEP Team & Booth Level Officers (BLOs) of the district here today to assess the Booth level election preparedness for the upcoming General Election to the Legislative Assembly 2024. The meeting saw participation of Nodal Officer SVEEP, DFOs, AC Level Nodal Officers and the BLOs across the district’s three Assembly Constituencies (ACs), who joined online.
The DEO underscored the pivotal role of BLOs in the election process, emphasizing their responsibility as the ground-level facilitators. He asked BLOs to personally engage with absentee voters of the last election and work closely to facilitate their visit to the polling stations on polling day.
The DEO asked for providing every possible assistance to bring absentee voters, ensuring they can actively participate in this election process. The DEO exhorted upon the BLOs to conduct extensive awareness campaigns along with BAGs polling station-wise and ward-wise to inform the public to exercise their right to vote.
He also said that good performers will be rewarded. He further emphasized early distribution of voter slips to avoid inconvenience to voters on the polling day. DEO encouraged BLOs to intensify and align Systematic Voters' Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) activities with ongoing environmental initiatives such as Swachhta and plantation drives to promote both electoral awareness and environmental sustainability.
A detailed discussion ensued on election management, including Assured Minimum Facility (AMF) in Polling Booths, training of BLOs, poll day arrangements, conducting mock polls, hourly reporting on polling day, polling booth beautification for giving a festival touch to elections and facilitation of postal ballot voting, including home voting options. The DEO also reviewed plans for Green SVEEP activities and Booth Awareness Group initiatives, which are designed to further enhance voter engagement.
