About Sukhwinder Singh

Sukhwinder Singh’s journey in music began at a remarkably young age. He gave his first on-stage performance at the tender age of 8, foreshadowing the remarkable career that lay ahead. By the age of 13, Sukhwinder had already displayed his exceptional talent by composing his first song, “Tutak Tutak Tutiyan”, for Punjabi singer Malkit Singh.

The legendary Bollywood playback singer has won international recognition, notably for his Academy and Grammy Award-winning song “Jai Ho” from “Slumdog Millionaire”. Singh’s illustrious career also boasts accolades such as the Filmfare Best Male Playback Award for songs like “Chaiyya Chaiyya” and “Haule Haule”.

With an illustrious career spanning decades, Sukhwinder Singh has lent his mesmerising voice to numerous multilingual blockbusters, enchanting audiences with his unforgettable renditions. His remarkable contributions to the Indian film industry have earned him widespread acclaim and accolades, with his songs becoming timeless classics cherished by generations.

Beginning with the release of the Punjabi album "Munda Southhall Da”, a collaboration with T Singh, Sukhwinder embarked on a path that led him to join Laxmikant-Pyarelal’s troupe. His talent as a music arranger quickly became apparent, prompting him to seek opportunities in South India, where he lent his voice to the Tamil film “Ratchagan”.

However, it was his Bollywood breakthrough with the song "Aaja Sanam" in the film "Khilaaf" that marked the turning point in his career. Although initially unnoticed, Sukhwinder rose to prominence with his unforgettable rendition of "Chaiyya Chaiyya" for AR Rahman in "Dil Se...”, earning him a Filmfare Award.

This iconic song, picturised by Shah Rukh Khan, became a sensation and solidified Sukhwinder’s position in the industry. Notably, he has provided playback for seven of Khan’s songs, further cementing his association with the superstar.

In addition to his illustrious playback singing career, Sukhwinder showcased his versatility by participating in the seventh season of "Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa" in June 2014. Furthermore, his rendition of the 2023 Men’s FIH Hockey World Cup anthem, “Jai Ho Hindustan Ki”, composed by Prem Anand, further exemplifies his multifaceted talent and enduring impact on the Indian music scene. Sukhwinder Singh continues to contribute to the music industry with his soulful voice and versatile talent.
