The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab welcomes the Mann government's decision to hike sugarcane MSP by Rs. 11 per quintal. Terminal this decision of the Mann government pro-farmers and important, AAP Punjab said that since day one our government is working diligently to improve the condition of farming and making it a profitable business in our state.
Addressing the media from the party office in Chandigarh on Friday, AAP Punjab chief spokesperson Malvinder Singh Kang said that farming is the backbone of Punjab's economy. But it had been neglected by the previous governments who did not make any policy that actually benefits our farmers and our state.
He added that it is not the case anymore, now Punjab has a government who prioritise farmers, farming and the natural resources of our state above their selfish interests. Kang said that Punjab is the state which is giving the highest MSP to sugarcane farmers. From December 2nd all co-operative and private sugar mills will be functional and will buy sugarcane at minimum Rs 391 per quintal.
Last year Mann government gave MSP of Rs 380 per quintal to sugarcane farmers which was also the highest price. Kang said that during previous governments sugarcane farmers used to stage protests for days to get fair price for their crop and still their dues were pending against public and private mills.
Right after the formation of our government we cleared all arrears of sugarcane farmers and instructed the private mills to do the same or the action is being taken. Kang said that the Mann government is pro-farmers government. We cleared pending arrears of the farmers and we are constantly taking decisions to make farming a profitable business for our farmers.
These steps are increasing the trust of people in the AAP government. He said that crop diversification is the need of the hour for Punjab and with fair MSP on sugarcane, farmers will be encouraged towards alternative crops. He said that the Mann government is ensuring canal water to every field and more area under crops other than paddy, it will save Punjab's ground water. He said that under the visionary leadership of the chief minister Bhagwant Mann Punjab soon will become the number one state.
